Our Commitment to Safety

At iWantIt, we are dedicated to creating a safe, secure, and trustworthy environment for all students. Our platform is built with multiple layers of protection to ensure that every interaction and transaction within the app is as safe as possible. We continuously monitor activity, verify users, and provide secure in-app payment and shipping services.

Important: iWantIt is only responsible for transactions completed through our in-app payment and shipping system. We are NOT responsible for any transactions, exchanges, or communications that occur outside of the iWantIt platform.

Student Verification

Every user on iWantIt must verify their student status using a valid university email address (.edu or equivalent). This verification process helps ensure that:

  • Only current students can access the platform
  • Users are part of legitimate campus communities
  • The platform remains exclusive to verified students
  • Trust and accountability are maintained

Safe Trading Through the App

Always use iWantIt's in-app payment and shipping system. Our secure platform protects both buyers and sellers throughout the entire transaction process.

For Buyers

Use in-app payments only: Complete all purchases through iWantIt's secure payment system

Review seller profiles: Check ratings, reviews, and transaction history before purchasing

Read item descriptions carefully: Make sure you understand what you're buying

Track your shipment: Monitor delivery status through the app

Report issues immediately: Contact support if items don't match descriptions

For Sellers

Accurate listings: Provide honest, detailed descriptions and clear photos of items

Ship promptly: Use our in-app shipping system and send items within the stated timeframe

Provide tracking information: Update shipping details through the app

Respond to messages: Communicate with buyers through in-app messaging

Package items securely: Ensure items arrive in the condition described

Recognizing Red Flags & Scams

Be aware of common warning signs that may indicate fraudulent activity. Report any suspicious behavior immediately.

Requests to complete transactions outside the app

NEVER agree to meet in person, use external payment methods, or communicate outside iWantIt. All legitimate transactions happen through our secure platform.

Requests for external payment (Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, cash, etc.)

Scammers will ask you to pay outside the app to avoid our buyer protection. Only use iWantIt's in-app payment system.

Too good to be true prices

If an item is priced significantly below market value, it may be a scam or the item may not exist.

Pressure to act immediately

Scammers create urgency to prevent you from thinking clearly. Take your time with all transactions.

Requests for personal information

Never share passwords, social security numbers, bank details, or other sensitive information with other users.

Suspicious links or requests to download files

Don't click on links or download files sent by other users. These may contain malware or phishing attempts.

Remember: iWantIt is not responsible for transactions or communications that occur outside our platform. For your protection, complete all transactions through our secure in-app system.

Safe Communication

Guidelines for protecting yourself during online interactions:

  • Always use the in-app messaging system—never move conversations to text, email, or social media
  • Do not share personal contact information (phone number, address, social media handles)
  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading files from other users
  • Report any inappropriate, harassing, or threatening messages immediately
  • Block users who make you uncomfortable or violate community guidelines
  • Keep conversations transaction-focused and professional
  • Never share sensitive information like passwords or financial details

Protection Tip: Using in-app messaging allows our moderation team to review reports and take action against users who violate our policies. Communications outside the app cannot be monitored or protected.

Secure In-App Payment & Shipping

All transactions on iWantIt must be completed through our secure in-app payment and shipping system. This ensures:

Buyer Protection: Your payment is held securely until you confirm receipt of the item

Seller Protection: Payment is guaranteed once the item is delivered and confirmed

Tracking & Accountability: All transactions are recorded and can be reviewed if disputes arise

Dispute Resolution: Our support team can help resolve issues with documented in-app transactions

Shipping Integration: Track your packages directly through the app

Warning: iWantIt is NOT responsible for transactions completed outside our platform. If someone asks you to pay through Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, cash, or any other external method, report them immediately. These transactions are not covered by our protection policies.

Reporting & Getting Help

We take all reports seriously and investigate every incident. Here's how to report issues:

Report Suspicious Activity

If you encounter any of the following, report it immediately:

  • Scam attempts or fraudulent listings
  • Harassment, bullying, or threatening behavior
  • Inappropriate or illegal content
  • Impersonation or fake accounts
  • Spam or unsolicited messages
  • Violations of our Terms of Service

How to Report

In-App Reporting:

  1. Go to the user's profile or the specific listing/post
  2. Tap the three dots (⋮) menu
  3. Select "Report"
  4. Choose the reason for reporting
  5. Provide additional details if necessary

Emergency Situations:

If you feel you are in immediate danger, contact campus security or local law enforcement first, then report to us.

What Happens Next

Our safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours. Depending on the severity of the violation, we may:

  • Issue a warning to the user
  • Temporarily suspend the account
  • Permanently ban the user from the platform
  • Remove offending content
  • Report illegal activity to authorities

Protecting Your Account

Keep your iWantIt account secure with these best practices:

  • Strong passwords: Use a unique, complex password that you don't use on other sites
  • Don't share credentials: Never share your password or login information with anyone
  • Verify student email: Keep your university email address up to date and secure
  • Log out on shared devices: Always log out when using public or shared computers
  • Review account activity: Regularly check your transaction history for any unauthorized activity
  • Enable notifications: Turn on alerts for purchases, sales, and messages
  • Report suspicious activity: Contact support immediately if you notice anything unusual

Our Trust & Safety Team

iWantIt's dedicated Trust & Safety team works around the clock to monitor the platform, respond to reports, and maintain a secure environment for all users. We employ advanced detection systems, conduct regular safety audits, and continuously update our policies to address emerging threats.

Our protection covers transactions completed through the iWantIt app only. We cannot assist with or be held responsible for any exchanges, payments, or communications that occur outside our platform.

Your safety is our responsibility within the app, but it's also a shared effort. By following these guidelines, using our secure payment and shipping system, and staying vigilant, you help create a safer community for everyone.
